Cetina, the freshwater spring – which is a hydrogeological nature monument.
Expectations was high as we had seen really cool pictures of this lake on the internet. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed as I had expected it to be quite larger than it was. And although the water was crystal clear with depths of up to 115 meters, to me it looked just like any other small pond while standing next to it. I guess this is one of those attractions you should have a drone to really get the wow factor.
To me the small villages around the area and the beautiful surroundings was the winning part of this excursion, along with the great picnic Vladimir had prepared for us. So overall a day well spent.
It’s worth a visit if you are passing by, but perhaps not as the main attraction of your excursion. Next time we will be more prepared and look up some additional viewpoints along the way.
Cetina freshwater spring is located just over an hour to an hour and a half’s drive from Skradin depending on route.
Take in the history from this archaeological site located just 15 kilometres from Skradin. This place will treat you with old mosaics and other historical buildings. If that doesn’t attract you, the spectacular views will.
Go Explore - Sveti Ante -hiking trail.
There is a really nice hiking trail alongside the Šibenik canal out towards the fortress of Sveti Nikole. The trail is a total of 4,4 km one way and treats you with amazing views over the city of Šibenik and the canal leading to the open Adriatic Sea.
There are also some beaches along the way and also, if you do not want to go the whole trail you can park on some locations along the way.
The trail is very well arranged and you can easily walk these kilometres. There are some ups and downs but fully manageable.
This place gives you a beautiful view over the island Visovac taken from the viewpoint just a short hike from Dubravice. You are able to take the car almost all the way to the viewpoint
There are tables and benches available if you want to bring some snacks. We thought it was wonderful to just sit a few minutes and enjoy the silence.
Amazing views will meet you from the Rogovo Viewpoint near Rupe.
Coming from Rupe you take right by the exit road towards Rogovo viewpoint, follow the asphalt/gravel road for about 4 km and walk the last 600 meters and you will find this pearl overlooking the island Visovac on one side and Roški slap on the other.
By car it takes around 35 minutes from Skradin. You can also go by bike as there are marked trails available.
It is absolutely fantastic to know that after 50 years of frequently visiting these areas, I still have a lot of things left to see and experience/learn. Such as "Kude's bridge over the river Krupa".
Admittedly, the nature is dramatic with high mountains, but in the picture the bridge with its 109 meters and 12 (I think) arches seems cute but inconspicuous. So that wasn't what attracted me. Nah, it was the story about it that triggered it. According to legend, it was built by a love-sick youth "Kudes" in order to reach his beloved on the other side. It was like a classic languishing Balkan love ballad in real… if the legend is true.
Kudin most is located around 67 km from Skradin and it takes around 1,5 hours by car. There is a small parking spot and then you have to take the trail down to the bridge which takes around 30 minutes depending on how fit you are. We think it is worth the effort. Bring some food and drinks and you will have a great adventure.
