Thanks to family and friends joining us, we managed to complete the harvest of our 35 trees in only two(!) days.
This year turned out to be a good one and in a few weeks we will be able to enjoy the "fruit of our hard labor".
Hand picked, cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil.
Our own OBLICA byColovic
We feel so lucky and humble that we have such good people around us.
Our goal is to produce high-quality, extra virgin olive oil,
crafted in the traditional way it has been for generations –
no pesticides, no chemicals, just traditional farming.
The olives are harvested by hand and coldpressed.
Our olive varieties are majority of Oblica which are autochthonous from our region.
Our own olive grove was bought by Vladimir’s great grandfather Marko Marasović after he returned home from America and has now been in our family for over a century.
It was latest looked after by our nan, Ivanka, or as we all called her, teta Janja. Since she passed away some years ago at the age of 89 it was left unattended and became largely overgrown. Thru the years, grapes, figs, olives and cherries has been grown here which with some hard work have resulted in wine, olive oil, various liqueurs (Rakija) and more.
In a world defined by fast-paced living and modern-day stressors, the path to a healthier, more meaningful life can sometimes take an unexpected turn.
We are Vladimir and Marie Colovic. In February 2022 we decided to relocate from Stockholm, Sweden to Vladimir’s family home in Skradin, Croatia. Here we want to start a new life with the aim to work towards a more sustainable lifestyle with less stress and more appreciation of the life we are given.
When we decided to try and save nan’s olive grove we litterally had no idea what to do or where to start. But thanks to many of our helpful farmer neighbours, we made it happen. Today we are very proud that we dared the task and our goal now is to continue our family’s legacy and keep the tradition of small farming alive.
The history of olive cultivation spans thousands of years. There is evidence that it was cultivated by the ancient Egyptians and in ancient Mesopotamia. Initially, the extracted oil was used for medicinal purposes and lighting.
After being spread to the Mediterranean region by the Phoenicians, olive oil quickly became a valuable commodity for ancient Greeks and Romans, who valued its nutritional benefits and used it in cooking, skincare, and ceremonies.
Here in the Skradin region, we have been cultivating olives for more than 2000 years.
